An Elvis Encounter
A long lost love, rekindled by a doting husband

Just one Story today - but it’s E.L.V.I.S.
An Elvis Encounter
As I was meeting with a client recently, somehow in conversation he said,
“Thank you very much,” or “thengkewvurrymush,” in a deep low voice.
Of course I responded as if I’d just met Elvis himself. It turns out, he had been an Elvis Impersonator when he was younger. He knew exactly how to deliver that line!
Most of our time was devoted to talking about his wife. She wasn’t on the call with us. He was the primary breadwinner and he wanted to take care of her if anything should happen to him. Theirs was a love-story meant for the big screen. They’d met when they were younger, and some chance misconnection, or bad timing sent them down separate paths for more than twenty years. He never stopped thinking of her, and he finally found his way back to her and married her. He spoke like they were newlyweds, although they’d been married for many years. He still saw her as the love of his life. You couldn’t ask for a more doting husband.
Then as we were wrapping up our call, he started telling me about his acting days. He wasn’t just a hobby Elvis Impersonator, he was professional. He was on television shows, and in Hollywood. He was big time and went all over the world.
Do you think there could be anything more soul-satisfying or rewarding for a Poet than to get to listen to people’s stories as part of my job? In most lines of work, we’re expected to keep things pretty surface. Just the facts, and rush from one thing to the next. But here, we are getting to the very heart of what matters to people, and conversations feel deeper, more poignant. Bliss, I tell you.
And that’s it for today. It’s been such a busy month. My calendar is filled with appointments to meet with more families and hear more stories. What a life. What a job!
Thank you for being here. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
