Rock & Roll Walking Meditation

With earbuds in and music playing, I walk the streets of my town almost every night. After only one night of doing this, I found I had a fondness for my streets, a tenderness towards the little town I call home. It dawned on me that I could use this time to pray for my community.

So, the next night I walked the streets around the little Elementary school in my town and prayed over every child and every family. I prayed for those feeling left out and those who have trouble making friends. I prayed special blessings over the kids riding bikes and the freedom that allows them and also the dangers. I walked across each parking space thinking of families and teachers and people who work at the school, praying love and laughter, peace, joy, plenty. I prayed as I walked across the front of the school for kids who sometimes wait too long to be picked up and get scared. I prayed as I walked past a fence on the side of the playground for any kids ever pushed or taunted or ignored as not cool enough to play with - I prayed over every single family related to that school. It became a really long prayer.

Are You Ready?

The Band Disturbed from 95.5 KLAQ

Some nights the lyrics of a song will guide me on a meditation of the words. One song in particular has become a bit of a theme song for my entrepreneurial venture. “Are You Ready” by Disturbed. This link will bring you to the lyrics.

So many of the lyrics talk about changing perspective, learning to think for ourselves instead of taking what our society tells us, becoming our own person, gaining strength, turning into the kind of person who can no longer be preyed upon.

Well, are you ready now
For the revolution
For too long your power has been taken away

It's been taken away
Does your heart feel heavy now
Savor the solution

Take those mental shackles off and throw them away
You've got to get them out of your mind
Don't you let their vision leave you blind

Moving steady now
It's a revelation
For so long your focus has been taken away
Now you're breaking away

They may think they know you, but here's an education
No, they can't control you
Once you've broken away
They're done patrolling your mind

When they're searching for you, they will find
A force they aren't ready for
(Are you ready!)

They aren't ready for you to be strong
(Are you ready!)
They aren't ready for you to prove them wrong

They aren't ready for you to be turned into someone
Who cannot be preyed upon

Changes needed to BECOME

When I think of blossoming and blooming into the person I need to BE in order to handle growing a business, I see layers of blossoms like this flower.

We have so many layers, don’t we? We have beliefs that were instilled as a child, we learned things on the playground about how the world really works, we settled into our role, whichever role that was, and if we were a striving child, reaching for more, we might have been scolded. Perhaps we were told to stop living in a dreamworld and think about the world more realistically. Perhaps our visions of what we would be when we grew up were outlandish and people told us to narrow our dreams to fit a more logical expectation.

Maybe we don’t want logical expectations. Maybe our dreams are so large that they require the magic of our creativity and imagination and all the love we can give. That just made me think of the scene in the Sound of Music when the Reverend Mother sang to Maria.

Climb every mountain, Ford every stream, Follow every rainbow, 'Till you find your dream. A dream that will need All the love you can give, Every day of your life For as long as you live.

Of course I grew up watching this musical - the oldest daughter’s name is Liesl! I knew all the lyrics and all the lines. I grew up singing and twirling with my arms wide like Maria in the mountains. Her personality and love of singing resonated with me. Her inability to play small and her rise to the grandness of her dreams - that filled my heart.

So, I guess I had this amazing dreamworld ignited by musicals like Singing in the Rain, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, and The Sound of Music - and somehow also the instigation from all sorts of sources to be realistic. How confusing.

Now I get to pick and choose the inspiration I will listen to - and I’m choosing to listen to Dream Big, Go Get It, The World is My Oyster kind of thoughts.

It’s dawning on me how much the impossible was ingrained into my mind as possible. I’ve known it all my life. It’s been a bit buried lately after years in the corporate world, but I’m seeing it again, it’s burbling to the surface, it is becoming and blossoming, and I am READY to start getting rid of all the distractions to that grand impossible that I am building.

I love how writing out my thoughts untangles them. Here I thought I needed to unravel something in me to be able to grow - but I just needed to unveil what I already believe!

I Can Do This!

If you’re wanting to grow as big as you’ve dreamed you could be - let’s talk! If you want to buckle down and build something that the real world says is impossible - let’s talk. I’m building a team of dreamers and doers and people who want to help others!
